Volunteering and professionalism
The somewhat controversial move to “increase” professionalism in volunteering has been given the thumbs up today.
In a survey commissioned by Volunteering England, over 70% of the surveyed people said that the professionalisation will be positive for the sector. As the idea of professionalisation is catching on, I for one hope that the notion of professionalisation can convince the remaining 29% percent that a better management of the sector is really about delivering better services – rather than increasing profits, bigger targets and saving money. And lets not forget that after all at the heart of each voluntary organisation are the people that drive the organisation forward: the volunteers. And it would be a shame to forget about the most valuable “asset” an organisation can have!
